Move from the abstract information of the periodic table to the concrete construction of an atom. The ETC Atom Board Element Cards are designed as the curriculum companion to the ETC® Atom Board, giving students the information they need to select an element and physically construct its atomic structure using the Bohr model.

The printable set progresses through the elements from hydrogen to oganesson. Each card provides the element name and symbol along with its atomic number, atomic mass, group number, period number, and electron distribution, giving students the information needed to work independently with the Atom Board.

Students begin by selecting an element card and using its atomic number to determine the number of protons required in the nucleus. They then add the appropriate particles and distribute electrons among the board’s energy shells, transforming information normally encountered on the periodic table into a hands-on model they can see and manipulate. The instructional sequence begins with balanced atoms and provides a foundation for more advanced work with isotopes and ions.

This progression is particularly well suited to Montessori because it provides a bridge from concrete experience to abstract understanding. Once students have developed familiarity with the periodic table, the cards and Atom Board allow them to explore relationships among atomic number, protons, neutrons, electrons, electron shells, and atomic structure in a purposeful and engaging way. ETC’s chemistry implementation guidance places building atoms with the Atom Board as a culminating step after students have developed an understanding of the periodic table.

A valuable resource for Upper Elementary and Secondary Montessori chemistry, these downloadable and printable cards provide repeated opportunities for independent exploration, scientific reasoning, and deeper investigation of the structure of matter.

Please note: This product contains the digital printable Element Cards only. The ETC® Atom Board and particle materials are sold separately. To purchase the Atom Board.
