Part of the Ecology Level 6-9 Curriculum.

Layers of a Tropical Forest is a digital printable Montessori ecology material created for lower elementary students ages 6–9. This resource helps children explore the vertical structure of a tropical rainforest by identifying the emergent layer, canopy layer, understory layer, and forest floor. Through rich visual imagery and clear information cards, students learn how sunlight, plant growth, animal habitats, temperature, humidity, and decomposition change from one layer of the rainforest to another. The material supports hands-on classification, vocabulary building, ecology lessons, biome studies, independent matching work, and follow-up research on rainforest plants, animals, adaptations, biodiversity, and ecosystem relationships.

What Is Included

This digital printable includes a full-color rainforest layers chart, a second visual chart for observation and discussion, nomenclature cards for the emergent layer, canopy layer, understory layer, and forest floor, matching picture cards, definition cards, fill-in-the-blank student cards, and teacher lesson notes with presentation aims, procedure, and follow-up suggestions. The lesson notes guide teachers and homeschool parents in introducing the parts of a tropical or subtropical forest, focusing on the plant and animal life found in each level, and extending the work through drawing, research, task cards, or biome study.
