Part of the Ecology Level 6-9 Curriculum.

Layers and Composition of the Atmosphere is a printable Montessori science material designed for lower elementary students ages 6–9. This set gives children a clear, visual way to study the structure of Earth’s atmosphere, beginning with the troposphere and moving outward through the stratosphere, mesosphere, thermosphere, and exosphere. Through the use of layered atmosphere circles, picture cards, definition cards, and student follow-up cards, learners can see how each atmospheric layer has its own role, temperature pattern, and defining features, including weather, clouds, the ozone layer, meteors, auroras, satellites, and the gradual transition into space. The material supports hands-on Earth science lessons, vocabulary development, visual classification, independent matching work, and follow-up research on greenhouse gases, solar radiation, weather systems, and atmospheric boundaries.

What Is Included

This digital printable includes a labeled control chart for the layers of the atmosphere, an additional visual chart, atmosphere circles for building the layers from Earth outward, individual layer pieces for the troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere, thermosphere, and exosphere, terminology cards for atmospheric boundaries such as the tropopause, stratopause, and mesopause, definition cards, fill-in-the-blank student cards, and teacher notes with presentation aims, procedure, and follow-up suggestions.
