Teacher Workshops, Seminars, and Organizational Coaching

(Dates are arranged based on calendar availability and are agreed between ETC Consulting and the customer. Traveling expenses are calculated and arranged with the host school).

Cost is for a 2 day workshop with a maximum of 15 participants.

Schools and school districts with more than 15 attending teachers may purchase additional 2 day workshops.

A total of 14 AMS CE credits, or 14 hours of State Continuing PD credits are available to each attendee upon full completion of the workshop.

The following broad topics are examined in length.

Overview of the five standards necessary to teach math.

  • Number sense
  • fractions
  • geometry
  • data analysis/measurement
  • algebraic reasoning.

Analysis of montessori math material as a diagnostic tool for children

  • Understanding the concepts of concrete-to-abstract and simple-to-complex in relation to the Montessori math and sensorial materials. These concepts apply to other subject and their importance of not only why but how to apply them in the general Montessori classroom.

Emphasis on key materials that allow children to move into abstraction in the four operations.

  • Presentations, discussions and explorations are centered on the idea that the math curriculum is a full system; as in any system if the entire sequence is not implemented at the appropriate time the end product will be altered.
  • Teachers explore and understand the key pieces of materials as well as key mathematical concepts necessary for children to abstract the four operations in a developmentally appropriate way.
  • Help teachers realize how their own personal preferences affect the system.

Discussions on concepts not addressed in traditional Montessori training.

  • Topics and explorations on the idea that although the Montessori pedagogy is solid, the curriculum has changed, and therefore, Montessori curriculum needs to reflect current educational standards.

Augmentation of the classic Montessori materials to meet current educational standards

  • A Teacher's choices of what they present affects the ultimate outcome of student understanding. Teachers create unnecessary challenges by focusing only on four operations and not exploring or fully understanding the development of mathematical thinking in relationship to algebraic reasoning.
  • Helping Montessori Lower Elementary teachers work on analyzing and implementing real world application of the four operations, as opposed to only focusing on how to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

Presentation methods, and organization of content that allows for the full breadth of the Montessori math curriculum to be implemented as a differentiated curriculum.

  • Montessori curriculum allows for the teaching of measurement, data collection, and analysis in other content areas. Explorations, demonstrations and conversations of how to move children to develop their own mathematical understanding through real world experiences with the use of traditional Montessori materials.
