The "Gifts of the Phyla" is a lesson in the Montessori curriculum that aims to introduce young children to the diversity of life on Earth. It is usually found in the upper elementary training albums but it can also be found in Michael Dorer's book The Deep Well of Time.

During the traditional lesson, children are introduced to each of the phyla using pictures, specimens, and stories. They learn about the unique body structures, locomotion, and feeding methods of each phylum, and are encouraged to make connections between these characteristics and the environment in which the organism lives.

The goal of the lesson is to help children develop an appreciation for the diversity of life on Earth, and to inspire curiosity and wonder about the natural world. By learning about the different phyla and the unique adaptations that make each organism well-suited to its environment, children develop a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness of all living things and begin to appreciate the importance of conservation and environmental stewardship.

This material will help you bring this classic Montessori lesson to life. Beautifully constructed from long-lasting materials, it will allow you to do the presentations for years to come. The tree of life is made from walnut wood and represents the gift of the plants as every animal depends on plants for survival.

The hearts are made from acrylic depicting the phyla on one side while the gift of each is printed on the reverse side using our UV enhanced acrylic printing process. Each heart is made from premium acrylic allowing for an enhanced look while the color is further enhanced as the light passes through the acrylic layer.

Everything is contained in a red gift box full of pink tissue paper, reinforcing the idea of a gift!
