Today, the five-kingdom model is a recognized system and used primarily in the European educational system. It has been refined throughout the years, and today many scientists continue to use it. It forms the basis of the multi-kingdom classification system. This classification system is based on the differences of nutrition, with plants being categorized as autotrophs, animals as heterotrophs, and fungi as saprotrophs.
